Artistry On Wheels - A Journey Through Creativity

Project Overview:

This program came to life as a result of an artists and community consultation undertaken on the Central Coast, that highlighted the need for Central Coast artists to have local paid performance opportunities, opportunities to collaborate with artists from different disciplines, opportunities to develop new multidisciplinary work and to engage with new audiences;  Another finding was the need of CaLD communities to have free arts and cultural programs that represent the many cultures on the Central Coast so it will help new arrivals integrate and teach the broader community the importance of embracing diversity, making the Central Coast an inclusive place to live, work, and play for everyone and to bring arts and culture to public schools, community centres, aged care facilities, juvenile centres and community events.

Artistry on Wheels is an innovative and inspiring initiative aimed at bringing the magic of art and culture to activate Central Coast's unexpected locations and underserved areas through a sustainable pop-up stage on wheels. Partnering with My Dream Van Co to create an eco- friendly mobile performance space for culturally-centred, contemporary live, interactive performances and workshops  sure to engage our diverse communities, including children, people with disability, older people, families and youth.

Key Objectives:

Artistic Accessibility:

  • Bring high-quality art and culture to underserved areas, breaking down geographical and economic barriers.
  • Activate local spaces, ensuring everyone can engage with and enjoy multidisciplinary and cross-cultural art experiences.

Sustainability in the Arts:

  • Operate an eco-friendly mobile stage equipped with solar panels and energy-efficient lighting to minimise environmental impact.
  • Promote sustainability as a core value in all performances and workshops.

Community Engagement and Connection:

  • Provide a platform for emerging and established First Nations and CALD artists to showcase their work.
  • Foster community participation, encouraging residents to share their artistic talents and cultural heritage, creating an inclusive cultural dialogue.

Educational and Cultural Outreach:

  • Offer tailored programs for schools, aged care facilities, youth, and people with disabilities, including workshops, art classes, and cultural education programs.
  • Develop new multidisciplinary works that celebrate cultural diversity while inspiring and educating audiences.

Collaboration and Capacity Building:

  • Partner with 22 local artists and 14 community organisations, including schools, First Nations-led organisations, and preschools, to expand the program's reach.
  • Provide artists with paid opportunities to develop, rehearse, and present original work tailored to diverse audiences.

Impact

Artistry on Wheels enriches the lives of Central Coast residents by celebrating diversity, fostering creativity, and building cultural bridges. It promotes social cohesion, supports artist development, and inspires communities through the universal language of art and culture. By prioritising accessibility, sustainability, and inclusivity, this program transforms communities and leaves a lasting legacy of artistic appreciation and unity.

In summary, Artistry on Wheels is not just a program; it is a movement that embraces the transformative power of art and culture to create meaningful connections, empower artists, and inspire communities.

We acknowledge that the traditional custodians of this land we call Australia are holders and custodians of knowledge systems that are passed down from one generation to the next, through an oral tradition practiced for 70,000 years. We also acknowledge the Guringai, Darkinung, Awabakal, Dharug and Gadigal people,  on whose lands we live, learn and work, and pay deep respect to their elders, past and present, to their emerging leaders, and to the knowledge embedded forever in the Aboriginal custodianship of Country.
